The skinny on what's going on with my books

I guess I've procrastinated long enough and now is the time (past the time, really) to let you gentle readers know what's going on with my books. Some of you may have noticed that with the exception of Edging Past Reality, my books are no longer available for download.  All, including EPR, are now out of print and are no longer available in bookstores. I just checked Amazon and it looks like there are three copies left of Silent Kill and only one each of Playing the Hand She's Dealt and Spyder. I deeply apologize if this has caused an inconvenience for anyone. Silent Kill, Playing the Hand She's Dealt, and Spyder were published by L&L Dreamspell.  Sadly, Linda Houle, co-owner of L&L, recently passed away from cancer.  Lisa Smith, the other co-owner, had started L&L Dreamspell with Linda as a labor of love shared by best friends. With Linda's passing, Lisa decided to shut down Dreamspell. This was something Lisa had to do and I will always admire and respect the job she and Linda did. L&L Dreamspell was one class act and I will miss working with them. My heart goes out to Lisa and Linda's family.  I was so looking forward to sending them my next Louise Miller novel (a work in progress). But in the words of Kurt Vonnegut ~ so it goes. Although it will always feel a little strange, Louise Miller will find a new home.

Looking toward the future ~

So, what does this mean for my books? At this time I am looking for new publishing houses who will accept already published titles, or I may even self publish. One way or another, they will all be available again in bookstores and online. (I'm actually going through each book right now trying to fix any grammatical errors and typos that snuck through on the first printing.) That being said, although my titles are no longer available through conventional means, I still have some copies of each book (I've kept a supply for readings, signings, book fairs, etc.). Until I run out, you can still order autographed (or not) copies through my website (http://davidfingerman.com just click on 'autographed books'). Not only that, but because of the inconvenience, I am temporarily lowering the prices to $10 each.  And hey, because they're now out of print, I guess you can consider them collector's editions.  Who knows what they might be worth one day (or not)?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In other me writing news, Two Degrees Closer to Hell, my new collection of short stories (the title pretty much says it all), is set to be released on December 17th by another wonderful press, Staccato Publishing. More news about that will be forthcoming as the date draws near.
Thank you all for hanging with me.
Facebook Author Page Contest
After years of wondering why I should, and after much urging by well-meaning friends, I finally bowed to peer pressure and made an author page on Facebook. To kick it off, I'm holding a contest and giving away a copy of Edging Past Reality, Silent Kill, Playing the Hand She's Dealt, and Spyder. To enter ~ go to David Fingerman Author on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/pages/David-Fingerman-Author/523160124382574?ref=hl  and click 'like' under the book(s) you'd like to win. One winner for each book will be drawn Sunday evening, April 7th. Winners will be posted. (And if you haven't already, please click 'like' for the author page.)
Bloomington Writers' Festival & Book Fair
This Saturday, March 23rd, (yup, the day after tomorrow ~ damn, time sure does fly) the Bloomington Theater and Art Center is hosting its 10th Annual Writers' Festival and Book Fair. This will be my fourth straight year of selling my books at the fair. But something is different this year. For the first time I will be on a panel. Its title: Pathways to Getting Your Book Published. Tom Keyes will be moderating. Besides myself, June Anderson, Steve Filippini, and Mark Munger will be rounding out the panel. I must admit that I'm a bit excited to be sharing the table with such distinguished publishers and writers. The panel starts at 11:00 and runs 'til noon. Afterward, I'll be back at my table pimpin' my books. I'd love to have you stop by and chat. The festival starts at 9:30 and runs 'til 5:00. For more information go to www.bloomingtonwritersfestival.org.
Unfortunately, I will not have a new book out for this book fair. But there is good news. I just completed a new book of short stories and sent it off to a publisher for consideration. I'm still torn between having it go through a publishing company or self publishing (hmmm, maybe I should attend the panel rather than be in it), but I'm definitely interested in what they have to say. I've spoken with the publisher and have gotten some pretty good vibes. If they decline or I can't work out a deal, I'll most likely go the self publishing route. If that's the case, the book should be available within a couple of months. If they are interested and we work out a deal, it'll be a lot longer than that.  I'll keep you informed.
New Computer
So sorry to all my friends and acquaintances to whom I've made no comments on their blogs and Facebook pages and stuff. For about a week now I've been using my old back-up computer and have been online very little (mostly to check email). The old mac finally died. After hoping to get it fixed, I was convinced it made more sense to let it die and invest in a new one. Twist my arm on that. Now just waiting for the backup to complete itself. So slow, or am I that impatient? I'm on day 2.  I guess that'll teach me for having about 60 gig of music to transfer. Maybe, just maybe, I'll do some outside work for a change. Soon, when all my files are loaded, I'll be back in full swing.
Edging Past Reality update
Due to a number of circumstances, the paper version of Edging Past Reality has ceased publication. If you check the Amazon page, you will see that there are still some places offering it for mind-pukingly outrageous prices. I just about fell out of my chair when I saw - from $67.11 to $172.54 (used copies $8.99 (not complaining about that) up to $67.12)!
I assure you I had no say, nor do I receive any profit from their greed. If anyone still wants a paper copy, let me know ~ I've got a box-and-a-half worth sitting in my office ~ and I promise not to charge more than face value. I'll even sign 'em so they might be worth something when I cease to publicate (Did I just make up a new word?).
I want to thank all of you wonderful readers who made EPR such a success. Just to keep you informed, I'm working on a new collection of short stories that will hopefully be ready for publication sometime this fall.  Oh yeah ~ and for those of you with e-readers - EPR is still available as a download.
Edging Past Reality ~ A reality check
This past Thursday and Friday, Edging Past Reality was free for download on Amazon.com. More than 1800 people took advantage of the promotion. For a brief time EPR was pushed  to #1 in the horror/ghost category on Kindle's list and #2 in their short stories category. A giant and most humbling THANK YOU!
